Also, consider the situation I have now. If you buy a new TV, like I did, the programmer does not recognize new models, hence I have a very expensive remote that does not work with updated components. So I've had this device for about 9 months, and the only people who should own this device are those who have oodles of time learning how to program it correctly, and could care less about how much their time costs. All of you have heard that tech support bites, and updates are unavailable. Buyers beware. I'm an EE with many years programming experience, and this thing is nuts. If you want to value your time, look elsewhere.
URC has clearly chosen to service professional installers exclusively. It came, but with no software. I replaced it with the Logitech Harmony One and what a difference. I sent an email to URC customer support but got no reply.
I own several URC remotes and have been generally pleased with them. That's OK but neither they nor Amazon should be selling their products on a consumer focused site. Software included and also available for download and it works on a Mac. While URC doesn't provide consumer support, they did provide links on their Web site to download the programming software which was PC only.
I called Amazon support and the only advice they could give was to return it, which I have done. Save yourself a lot of disappointment and buy the Harmony One.Update: I finally did receive a response from URC with a link to the software but in the meantime have replaced it. When I saw the listing for this product Universal Remote Control MX-810 Custom Programmable Remote Control with PC Wizard Software which included the software I bought it. I went to the URC Web site and all software downloads have disappeared.
that's the best we can do on this). Near as I can tell this is a nice looking paperweight. Everything about this remote is painful. After 3 hours of building a profle I am stuck unable ot load it to the device. Return Label requested this is shipping back today. Support is poor, 4/5 of my devices where not found leaving me to track down the codes, software has well documented issues (do a goolge search for 'Unable to Obtain Model ID' - no resolution but to keep trying till it works. Really.
It is very easy to use and fits comfortable in my hand. Unless you get the remote with the PC programming package, you will need to get someone to program it for you; that can be expensive and take a while. It cost me $100 and 2 hours. I got this as an "open box" item. I would continue to purchase URC products. I initially regretted not getting the new Logitech universal remote. I did not know that I needed an RF module but that only cost an extra $100. However, after getting this programmed(by a pro), I am very happy with the purchase.
If I could buy a 2nd battery, it wouldn't be a big deal, but so far I haven't been able to find one. I only have 2 complaints. 2. The software is VERY poor.
This remote is great. Overall, great remote. The battery doesn't last very long, so I constantly have to recharge it. I've had several URC remotes in the last few years, and this one is my favorite.
Confusing, convoluted, not intuitive at all, and makes difficult some things that should be very simple. They REALLY need to update the software, and should make the battery a higher capacity (or sell one), or make a regular 2nd battery (and charger) available for sale. It's one of the only ones that allows "activity-based" function (meaning you can set it up so that you press 1 button for whatever activity you want to do, rather than just control individual devices all the time). 1.
